:  a nerve that arises as a branch of the common peroneal nerve where it forks between the fibula and the peroneus longus and that innervates or gives off branches innervating the muscles of the anterior part of the leg, the extensor digitorum brevis of the foot, and the skin between the big toe and the second toe—called also anterior tibial nerve; compare superficial peroneal nerve
